This paper is based on a presentation made at the Division 39 (psychoanalysis), American Psychological Association’s Twenty-sixth Annual Spring Meeting, April 2006, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The authors gratefully acknowledge the support of the Board of the Division of Psychoanalysis and the Education and Training Committee. Special thanks must be given to Past-President Jaine Darwin, PsyD and current President David Ramirez for their staunch advocacy. Additionally, we could not have done this without the support of Greg Keilin, PhD, Director of APPIC, who ensured that we received the APPIC data-base, greatly facilitating contacts with internships and clinical training directors. The senior author is especially appreciative of the indefatigable efforts, enthusiasm, and consultation afforded by the junior authors in the execution of this important work.
