Division 39 Sections

Section VIII. Couple and Family Therapy and Psychoanalysis
Section VIII is dedicated to promoting the understanding and treatment of
the psychological needs of couples and families. At both theoretical and
clinical levels, we are exploring how multiple perspectives within
psychoanalysis, and within other relevant models, can inform and enrich
one another, expanding the horizons of psychoanalysis to include couples
and families. We are also committed to increasing the discourse within
the Division 39 community around issues at the interface of the individual
and the broader relational context in which he/she is embedded. This
includes an emphasis on supporting and building on the strengths of family
and social relationships as a source of healing.
